When translated, this dessert is called a pudding. But personally, I don't think it is really like a pudding because the consistency is more similar to a liquid soup than it would be if it were a pudding . But this sweet corn pudding, along with many other Vietnamese/ Ha Noi desserts are a must have whenever you visit Ha Noi. These puddings vary from seasons and areas, depending on where and when you visit Viet Nam, you will be able to try different types of puddings. But nowadays, there are always little restaurants or little stores all around Ha Noi which sell more than just the puddings of the season and of the north, they sell all season puddings and also ones which can be found in Ho Chi Minh. My favourite is actually the sweet corn pudding, the liquid part of the pudding is sweet, but chewy and the corn kernels are plain and soft, giving this the perfect texture and taste. But the thing I like most is actually the fact that you can add coconut milk and coconut shaving or pearls into the pudding if you like and it will still taste good, this will help balance out the flavours if something is too sweet or plain!
Recommendation for a place to eat Vietnamese pudding and desserts: 16 Ngô Thì Nhậm, Hai Bà Trưng, Hà Nội, Việt Nam
This is a famous shop that sells Vietnamese pudding and other desserts like banh choi banh chay (floating rice cakes), xoi che (sweet rice in ginger syrup). The funny thing is that Vietnamese people don't actually enjoy desserts after their meals but rather as snacks. They have really good pudding and desserts for really good prices so if you have time stop by.
This place is also close to one of the Pho shops if anyone is looking to try both!
